We recently did a post about a
new drug known as Spice or K2, a recent news story on the msnbc website talks about another new drug called MDVP (methylenedioxypyrovalerone). This is similar to the Spice drug in that it is a synthetic drug that is marketed as being completely legal. The word from users of this drug say it is like a "legal
cocaine" or "legal speed". Even though the packaging generally has specific warnings saying "not for human consumption" it is being sold to drug users in gas stations and on the streets. These drugs are being sold as "bath salts", "fertilizer" or "insect repellents" and go for as much as $40 for about two-hundredths of an ounce.
This is some very scary stuff that is causing some major health risks. Reports say the drug went undetected in blood work, CAT scans and other test results. Another reason people are willing to suffer the terrible side effects, which can include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Paranoia
- Hallucinations
- Violence
Some have described it as a "really bad trip" but because it has such intense cravings, like
meth, people keep using it. One user is thought to have committed suicide when he had hallucinations that his house was surrounded by police helicopters and dozens of police cars.

- Cloud 9
- Ivory Wave
- Ocean
- Charge plus
- White Lightning
- Scarface
- Hurricane Charlie
- Red Dove
- White Dove
Drug addictions are scary and life threatening. These synthetic (man-made) drugs are especially scary. They are being marketed and sold daily in corner stores and neighborhood streets. These products were made illegal in the United Kingdom and a number of European countries earlier this year.
